"No new livestock management facility or new livestock waste-handling facility shall contain within its boundaries any stream or other surface waters except small temporary accumulations of water occurring as a direct result of precipitation."
Amazingly enough the above is a direct quote from Section 501.402 of Title 35, Environmental Protection of the IL Administrative Code (Location of New Livestock Management Facilities and new Livestock Waste-Handling Facilities)
This is probably the worst area in Illinois to build this monstrosity. It has been clearly proven and stated in court under oath many times that the proposed dairy site near Nora, Illinois does in fact contain a wetlands and a spring/stream that starts on the property near or under the proposed 40 acre manure pit that eventually ends up in the Apple River. So why is this controversy continuing??? When the Department of Agriculture and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency can't even uphold their own laws, that is indeed a very sad day, even in this very corrupt state that we live in.
"Farms For Our Future" now realizes that they should be promoting sustainable agriculture. These huge mega farms and giant agri businesses are no good for anyone, anywhere. We need to take care of our environment right now. The decision to "Californicate" Jo Daviess County is based on greed and greed alone. We need to support our local family farms. A few of our local politicians, big Ag promoters and other greed mongers would have us believe that the smaller family farm is a thing of the past. That is just simply not true. There are many thriving farms in our area.
The people that live, work, own property and pay taxes here want to preserve the beauty and environmental integrity of Jo Daviess County in northwest Illinois.
A dairy farm of over 5000 confined cows is certainly not appropriate for this area. The underlying fragile karst
bedrock would allow for almost certain contamination of the good clean water that this area now enjoys.
A Jo Daviess County Cow!!
This is a really happy cow from Jo Daviess County, you won't see this in California. They have slaughtered hundreds of thousands of cows in California since the decline in milk prices.
This recent slaughter is just more proof that there is no milk shortage in this country. Just some greedy corporations that call themselves “family farmers” trying to monopolize and manipulate the market to get more subsidy money and run out the small guy.
